Humans Name: Homo sapiens Physically, humans are unimpressive when compared to goblinoids, but are the tallest of the hominids. they have varying pigmentation and skin color, but all exhibit a moderate to heavy musculature and are generally agile. Humans have average strength and have a moderate tolerance for alcohol. They are prone to different diseases, but do live to be between 75 and 100 years old.
They are extremely intelligent, the smartest of all hominid races. They are very adept at the use of magic and are also intelligent enough to become very skilled in weapons handling with practice. They are definitely social creatures because they like to contact different civilizations and explore new territory. The use of their language has become the accepted standard between all races.
They tend to congregate and talk at any opportunity. Humans, while exceptional at nothing, are perhaps the most balanced of all races. They can carry a moderate amount of gear, and are good fighters or magic users. They are dexterous and quick for their size. One human was very prominent in the defense of Middle Earth and he was from the race of Numenorean. His name was Aragorn also called Estel, Thorongil, Elessar, Elfstone, Strider, and Isildur's Heir.
Aragorn was born March 1st, year 2931 of the Third Age to Arathorn II and Gilraen. Aragorn had the gift of longevity for he grew older much, much more slowly then the average human. He also possessed the skill of a great healer and could heal all afflictions except those caused by a Morder blade. His character made him standout above all others for he was noble, honorable and respectful of the old ways.
He was also brave and cunning and fought his enemy with such fervor that he earned the respect of many a man in the realm of Rohan and Gondor. His father was killed in battle and his mother took Aragorn to live in Rivendale the Elf kingdom. As a young boy Aragon was told by his mother that he was the Heir of Isildur and to the future king of Gondor. The First of the two great nations of Men founded in Middle-earth by Elendil after the Downfall of Numenor, the other being Arnor in the north.
Gondor was at first ruled jointly by Elendil's sons Isildur and Anarion. Both Elendil and Anarion were lost in the Siege of Barad-dur, and his brother Isildur soon afterwards in the Disaster of the Gladden Fields, and so the Kingship of Gondor fell on Anarion's son Meneldil. Thus, the Kings of Gondor were descendants of Anarion through many generations until the time of Earnur.
When Earnur was lost in Minas Morgul in III 2050, the rule of Gondor was taken up by the King's Steward, Mardil Voronwe; the death of Earnur was not certain, and so Mardil and the Stewards who followed him pledged to rule 'until the King comes back'. Unlikely though this seemed, it happened almost a thousand years later in III 3019 when Aragorn II Elessar, descendant by right line of Isildur, elder brother of Anarion, reclaimed the throne of Gondor.
The Second race of humans, who were very important in the realm of Middle-Earth were the people of Rohan. They were called the Rohirrim and are known as horse lords of the Middle Earth. Their King is Theodan and he is known as the Lord of the Mark. They are known for their battles and are a very strong culture that appreciates life and are willing to fight for their way of life if they need to. The Rohan people are suspicious of strangers and foreigners.
The Rohirrim language is based loosely on Old English. The Rohirrim's are known for their horses. Their armored helmets features flowing horse manes and their reverence for animals are reflected in the architecture of Edoras. Edoras was considered to be a golden place. It was described as having very green grass and sparkling clear water and brightly colored flowers. Rohirrim people consider their horses to be dear companions that they hold in high regard and care for lovingly.
They form a deep bond with their horses so when they choose a horse it's a matter of great importance. The man or woman is brought to the herd of horses and they wait for a signal or for the horse to approach them. The Rohirrim gains acceptance of the horse and mounts him. They then have a brief ceremony to seal the horse and the rider together. The Eomaegester(horse master) will make a small cut on the rider's palm and then a small cut on the horse's neck. The rider will press his hand on the horse's neck and allow the two bloods to mingle.
After that the Eomaegister will cut a few strands of the horse's mane and the rider's hair and braid these together and tie it on the rider's wrist. When a horse dies the rider performs a last service to his faithful companion. The circle of their braided hair is cut off the rider's wrist and is burned with the horse's body. This puts an end to their partnership. If the horse's body can't be retrieved or burned then the circle of hair will be burned to symbolize the act itself.
In late spring each year they hold a week long festival called a foaling feast, to welcome the birth of the new foals. It's similar to a festival or a country fair. The Rohirrim people are blond and clear eyed, though not the best looking. Rohan is a clan society dominated by three major clans: Mearas, Ethians, and Eowain. The clan Mearas is named in honor of a noble breed of horses tamed by Earl and consists of King Mearas and others.
This clan contains the royal family of Rohan. Clan memberships generally pass from father to child, though relatives may be adopted into the clan especially if they are named heir to the throne. Several of King Theodan's knights and their families belong to the clan. Clan members have lands for grazing and farming mainly in Edoras. Clan Ethais are descendants of Helm Hammerhead. They live in West Rohan and control and maintain Helm's Deep.
They have taken up farming and mining and have a small military force. Some of the clan also takes care of the horse herds on the Westford plain. Less than a day's ride away is Sarumen and Isengard. Clan Eowain are more nomadic than settled. They take care of herds of horses and other livestock and search for good grazing lands. Eowain's have a lot of pride in their love for liberty and their independence.
They also take pride in their horses, which are known for being fast and agile. Their clan also contains some of the finest horsemen in Middle Earth. Eowain's are honest, straightforward, and proud people who are used to taking care of themselves and are resistant to change in their lifestyles.
