The Return Of The Kings Part II

King

The journey continues...

Frodo, Sam and Gollum climbed the stairs ascending to their destination. Gollum continued to plot Frodo and Sam's demise for Gollum wanted the ultimate prize, the One Ring. While Frodo and Sam were sleeping, Gollum destroyed the last of the Lambus Elf bread. The Lambus was their only food source which meant Frodo and Sam would be too weak to put up a fight if Gollum would attack. Sam awoke upon hearing Gollum creeping around the camp. Gollum said he was doing nothing, yet Sam believed him not and accepted begrudgingly what Gollum had said.

Fordo was awaken by the commotion and was informed by Gollum that Sam wanted the ring for himself. Sam asked Frodo if he could lift his burden by carrying the One Ring for a while. Frodo became so paranoid by Sams comments that he sent Sam back home to the Shire and demanded that he leave at once. Sam was so shaken be the events that he begged Frodo to let him stay, but Frodo was very persistent. Gollum and Frodo continued to journey to the secret passage. And when they reached the entry point of the secret passage, Frodo became a little hesitant at first to venture into the bowls of the foul smelling cave.

The cave had the sent of rotting Orc corpses, yet Gollum reassured his master that all was well. Arwen was leaving Middle-earth until she had a vision of Aragorn being King of Gondor. She also saw a little boy being held in Aragorn's arms and realized that the little boy was her son. Arwen confronted her father about her vision and she told him she chooses a mortal life to be with Aragorn. Now the only thing Aragorn needed was the sword of Isildur. Anduril, the sword that was broken during Isildurs reign as king of Gondor and the sword that defeated Sauron. Arwen begged her father to re-forge the sword and give it to Aragorn.

Meanwhile the Orc armies were moving into position to attack Gondor. Their first target was a small settlement that guarded the riverbank of Gondor's river port. Faramir was the captain of the guard and the son of Denethor. Faramir and his guards fought bravely but were eventually over run by the Orc enemy. This enraged Dethroner and he ordered Faramir to overtake the port at all costs, even if it meant the death of his only living son.

Dethroner insisted the assault and Faramir fulfilled his duty. With a battalion of horsemen Faramir laid siege to the port city. However no Gondor rider made it to the city walls for they were all slaughtered by a rain of Orc archers. The Orcs unleashed such an onslaught that no Gondor warrior survived the attack. Dethroner was upset by the supposed death of Faramir and panicked when he saw legions upon legions upon legions of Orc armies gathering for the battle of Pelennor Fields.

The Gondor warriors were ready to abandon the city if it were not for the efforts of Gandalf making the warriors stand their ground and fight. The Orcs were very surprised that the Humans met them with such resistance and they were a little concerned. Before the massive attack Faramir and his horse came back to Minis Thirtieth barely still alive. Dethroner went mad and was calling for the abandonment of the city when Gandalf slugged him into silence. Gandalf became the new leader of the forces of Gondor.

Aragorn and the Rohan Riders assembled their camp at the base of the Haunted Mountain. Even for the bravest of warriors this place would send a cold chill that would soak to the bone. For no one who ventured into the mountain ever returned. After gathering as many men as possible, Aragorn turned in for the night and was awakened by a summons to see King Theoden.

Lord Elrond was the surprise visitor who really wanted to see Aragorn and Elrond presented Aragorn the sword Anduril and told him that it is now time to embrace his past and call upon the men of the mountains for assistance. Aragorn was reluctant yet knew he had no other choice. So Aragorn went into the haunted mountains to meat his fate and to embrace his destiny. Legolas and Gimli followed closely as the Rohan Riders wondered why Aragorn was abandoning them in their time of need.

The three companions traveled deep into the Haunted Mountains and came to the entrance that was built by the dead. Aragorn ventured into the cave and confronted the dead soldiers. He demonstrated that he was Isildurs air by repelling the Dead Kings attack and proving that he was indeed the rightful King of Gondor. Now Aragorn demanded their allegiance and ordered the ghosts to fulfill their oaths.

Frodo entered the cave and was attacked by a giant spider named Shelob. Frodo fended off her attacks by using his sword Sting and the Star of the North, a gift from the Elf Queen Galadriel. The star kept Shelob at bay for she could not stand the brilliancy of the light that it provided. Frodo barely escaped the tunnel unscathed. As Frodo escaped from the cave, Gollum attacked Frodo and tried desperately to take the Ring of Power form Frodo's neck.

Frodo successfully fended off Gollum's attack and was trying desperately to reach his destination, Mount Doom. Just when he thought he was all clear Shelob attacked Frodo and stung him with a mighty blow to the chest. Shelob then encased Frodo's body a web package for latter use to feed her hunger. Sam had decided to turn around and go back to Frodo. Thank goodness for Sam because he showed up at the last minute to save Frodo from a certain death. Sam fought Shelob bravely and wounded her thus, causing Shelob to retreat back into her lair both injured and defeated. Continued... The Return of the King Part III
