The Orcs outlasted their pursuers and journeyed to the edge of the forbidden forest to rest from their unnaturally fast pace. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli ran faster and faster trying to gain on their quarry. However fast the hunters traveled it seemed as if the Orcs would double or even triple their pace. Aragorn realized Saruman was using his magical powers to will his captured pray back to Isengard as quickly as possible.
The Orcs were tried and hungry. So they began bickering amongst their ranks and eventually turned on each other in a battle to either eat Merry or Pippin or both. While the infighting was going on the two Hobbits attempted to escape. However, they were caught in another battle for the Riders of Rohan ambushed the Orcs and slaughtered every last one of the monsters.
Merry and Pippin managed to escape their ordeal but they were not safe. For an Orc decided he was going to kill the two hobbits and feast on their flesh. Merry and Pippin ran into to Fangorn forest and hid from their pursuer only to be caught by the same Orc who nearly killed Merry. If it were not for the intervention of Tree Beard the herder of the tress, Marry and Pippin would not have survived their encounter with the Orc.
After saving the two hobbits, Tree Beard decide to ask the white Wizard what to do with the possible spies. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli continued the pursuit of their prey and ran upon a legion of Rohan Riders. The encounter was a little tense for the Riders knew not of Aragorn's quest to save his friends from a certain death. After a brief introduction and a bit of posturing the leader of the riders of Rohan, Eomer, told Aragorn of their victory over the Orcs and how none of their prey were left alive.
The three warriors were devastated upon hearing the news of no survivors by Eomer. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli traveled to the battle sight and eventually found Merry and Pippins tracks that lead into Fangorn Forest. Aragorn ventured into the forest seeking answers about Merry and Pippins survival when they were approached by the White Wizard. All three of the warriors were disarmed and frightened of their capture.
When the White Wizard displayed himself it was none other than Gandalf the White. Gandalf had died of his wounds but was sent back to help defeat Sauron and Saruman and to aid in the destruction of The Ring of Power. Gandalf told the others how he had killed the Balrog and came back to turn the tied of battle toward the inhabitants of Middle-earth. Gandalf quickly informed his companions that they needed to see King Theoden of Rohan to warn him of the pending dangers.
The companions then traveled to Rohan to see the king. However, they were too late for Saruman had possessed Theoden's body and was slowly destroying Rohan through his servant Worm tongue. Gandalf displayed his new powers by exorcising Saruman out of Theoden's body. When the king regained his full senses he threw Worm Tongue out of his city. Worm Tongue went straight to Isengard to disclose all the details of Rohan's fortress at Helms Deep.
Worm Tail knew Theoden would put up a last stand at Helms Deep and that was the place were Saruman decided to strike the fist blow in the battle for Middle-earth. The people of Rohan evacuated the city and went to Helms Deep taking as little as possible for their long journey. Along the way to their refuge, Saruman unleashed his wolf riders to destroy the citizens of Rohan. Aragorn and Theoden fought off the attack and restored order to their journey.
However, Aragorn was taken over the cliff by a crazed Wolf Rider. All thought Aragorn had fallen in battle and all were visibly shaken by the loss of their commander. Near death, Aragorn was saved by Arwen the Elf Princess. His beloved Arwen came to Aragorn in a dream and implored him to continue his fight for Middle-Earth. Aragorn summoned all the strength he could and journeyed to Helms Deep only to see a horrific sight.
